Topic: Enquire of the Lord
Text: 2 Samuel 2:1
And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron. Amen
This account of David is given after he had lost his dear friend who was like a brother to him, Jonathan, in battle. David does not allow the grief and the situation override the essence of seeking God’s face or direction.
He enquired of the Lord like a child does of his father. “Shall I go up into the cities of Judah?” David asked the Lord. When the Lord says “Go up”, David doesn’t get up and go. He asks the Lord again “whither shall i go up?”. The Lord says to Hebron. Guess what, He never stopped enquiring of God throughout his reign as king and God never complained that he asked too many questions.
God loves it when we enquire from Him before we act. Our enquiry doesn’t wear Him down or make Him any less of the Great God that He is. He knows we are mortals and limited in knowledge. He says “in all your ways acknowledge me and I will direct your path” (Proverbs 3:5)
Sometimes in life, we encounter difficult times that make us feel rejected and not cared for by God. In situations like this, we are often deceived to help ourselves and find our own way. Bible warns however in Proverbs 16:25 “There is a way that seems right to man, but the end thereof is death.”
When that job opportunity you desire so much slips you by and that loved one passes on unexpectedly, you must still acknowledge that our circumstances does change who God is or what His Word says about us.
When you are rejected by the admissions board of the school you love most, still don’t give up. It could just mean that God has a special plan for you. Be like David, enquire from the Lord. His plan for you will surely bring you to an expected hope and a future.
The Almighty is omniscient! He knows the end from the beginning. He knows which pathway to lead to your divine purpose and destiny. Those who enquire of Him before taking action, never lose their providential way.
Meditate on this word and begin to pray now. Never trust in your own wisdom and strength – you are human and limited in knowledge. Pray for the grace to enquire from God in every matter that concern you. THE ALMIGHTY GOD WILL DIRECT YOUR PATH.
