Drink From Your Own Cistern!

Today’s Devotion
Topic : Drink From Your Own Cistern!
Text: Proverbs 5: 15- 23

15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. 16 Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? 17 Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers.

18 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 A loving doe, a graceful deer — may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love. 20 Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife? Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?

21 For your ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all your paths.
22 The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. 23 For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly. AMEN

Every man is expected to leave his father and mother one day and cling to his OWN WIFE, and the two shall become one. It is God Himself who puts them together; “the woman after marriage becomes the only “cistern from which he drinks water”. For as long as he thirsts, water from his wife must be his only desire. Any other woman is not his “cistern” but another man’s; he must not drink from it.

All married women too must  understand that the cistern and its water belong only to their own husbands. “Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares?” (Prov 5: 16). Why should your nakedness be shamelessly displayed in public places to the unpleasant admiration of strangers? Why should other men feast their eyes on the cistern that belongs to your husband or even drink from it?

It is common knowledge that many married men lustfully desire other women instead of rejoicing over the wife of their youth and remaining intoxicated with their love. Going to bed with any other lady is sleeping with another man’s wife. You will have God to answer to.

For our ways are in the full view of the LORD, and He examines all our paths. Therefore “let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous” (Heb 13: 4).

The above makes it apparent  that until marriage, none of us young men can claim of owning a cistern from which we drink from. Neither can any unmarried woman also go about distributing the water in her cistern in the streets and public squares. It is called fornication and defiles our bodies which is the temple of the Holy Ghost.

If any unmarried person should be so thirsty to the point of death, as can be claimed by some, let them drink of Jesus, the fountain of life and out of their belly shall flow rivers of living waters (John 7: 38).

Also, ask them to practice self control and flee each time the temptation to drink from an “unauthorized” cistern becomes high. Otherwise, sin will ensnare them and the cords of their sins will hold them fast. For lack of discipline, self control and repentance, they will die in their sins, being led astray by their own great folly (Proverbs 5: 22- 23).

Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Ask for forgiveness for every act of fornication and adultery. Pray for your spouse or spouse to be, that God helps both of you stand for each other in holiness and love. Drink from your own cistern, God is watching us!
