Do You Love Me More Than These?

Topic: Do You Love Me More Than These?
Text: John 21: 15

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Amen

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to several of His disciples before His ascension. On one such occasion, He stood at the shore and watched them try in vain for a catch. Then He instructed that they cast their net to the right. This simple instruction obeyed, became their greatest testimony that day. They had such a huge catch that day.

Jesus then asked for some fish to roast, while serving them breakfast right at the shore. No sooner had they finished eating than Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

Beloved in Christ, think about this: if Jesus were to ask you, do you love me MORE THAN THESE, how will you answer? Has your love for Him reached the stage where it qualifies to be seen as a “more than that of others” kind of love? Is your love for Him a mere verbal confession or one that is backed by obedience and action?

Actually beyond the “I love you Lord” songs we sing at church, the heart of the Lord yearns for a lover (or worshipper) whose love for Him springs deep from the heart. One who can offer his life as a living sacrifice, love his neighbour as himself, keep the commandments of God and one who can feed His lambs. Will that be you?

This kind of love demands our soul, heart and our all; in such a way that we come to that point where we only yearn and thirst for God (Ps. 63:1) and align all our thoughts and desire in accordance with His. It’s then then He clothes us with His nature and self, so that we can care for and feed others.

Remember Jesus has already shown us what love actually means; when He chose to love us unconditionally, even into death in the cross. Can you do same? Can you love Him with your all? Think about this!

Begin to pray now and ask God to incline your heart towards loving Him more and more and extending this love to others. That is the only way the world will know we are His.
