Do This For Yourself!

Topic: Do This For Yourself!
Text: 1 Samuel 30: 6

6 David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. Amen

After David escaped from King Saul who had sought to take his life, the former wandered in the wilderness till he found lodging among the Philistines. They gave him and his band of outlaws a town to called Ziklag to dwell.

Having lived honourably among the Philistines, he gained their favour, so when they decided to fight Israel, he offered to join them. Some of the Philistine rulers however did not agree to this. So he and his band had to set out from camp and return home.

“1 Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. 2 They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone.

3 When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families, 4 they wept until they could weep no more. 6 David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

7 Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it. 8 Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!” (1 Samuel 30: 1-8)

The world around us today is filled with many situations that can discourage us and throw us off balance. On every side, we are bombarded with one negative issue after another; economic hardship, relationship crises, spiritual attacks, etc. At times, the very people we hope to receive encouragement from may be going through difficult times as well, and there seems to be nowhere to turn.

Beloved, in such times, encourage yourself in the Lord and seek His face. Ask to hear His voice; He’ll speak to you. Begin to pray with the hymns “Guide me oh thou great Jehovah & I need thee every hour”. Remember when we are weak, then through Christ, we are strong (2 Corinthians 12: 10).
