Topic: Do Not Trust Your Own!

Text: Psalm 127: 1- 2

1 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for He grants sleep to those He loves. Amen

If anyone is called a builder, it means he/ she has some knowledge about construction right? Yet bible recommends that unless the Lord builds each house, the builder who is trained to build, toils in vain.

In a like manner, a person is called a watchman when he has been screened, trained and given the relevant skills to watch while others go to sleep. Yet bible admonishes that unless it is the Lord watching over the city, all its watchmen watch in vain.

The reason for the above contrast is that man is very limited. He knows so much until His wisdom is juxtaposed with that of the Lord. Immediately all He knows become “foolishness”, giving way to the superior wisdom of God to reign.

Also man is often endowed with so much skill and talent to create wonderful things and fix different problems in life. However all that man can do is rendered zero when juxtaposed with the abilities of the MOST HIGH GOD. Nothing is ever impossible to Him.

Therefore those who would go far in life and survive the test of time, learnt a long time ago to submit to the Lord’s supreme authority. Allowing His wisdom, love and power to reign in all that they say and do.

You too must “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path” (Prov 3: 5-6). Begin to pray now. This is the beginning of a new week. “Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust Him, and He will help you” (Ps 37: 5).

Always remember that “in the council of the Holy ones, the Lord is GREATLY FEARED; He is more AWESOME than all who surround Him” (Ps 89: 7). An exceptional God who perfects excellence in all who submit to Him as Lord. Will you let Him be?
