Topic: Call on the Lord
Text: 2 Chron. 20:9
“If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgement, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.”Amen.
God had driven out the inhabitants of the land that He promised to give Israel. Israel now occupied the land and even built a sanctuary for God. However, not without threats from the enemies. Jehoshaphat stood up to encouraged Israel:
i. First of all, He knew calamity can befall them even in their own land. Unforseen situations may befall us in times we least expect so He directed the people back to God under such circumstances.
ii. Secondly, He encouraged that no matter how ugly the situation, they must choose to remain in the presence of God and call out to His Name.
Some issues in life may overwhelm us, we may encounter frustrations every now and then, be it in the office or workplace, school, at home or some other personal struggles.
Instead of throwing your hands in despair, encourage yourself out of your calamity by choosing to remain in the presence of God through thanksgiving, praise and adoration. Finally call on your God for help. For upon Mount Zion there shall be a deliverance and the Children of Jacob shall possess their possesion.
