Today’s Devotion
Topic: Choices
Text: 1 Corinthians 10:23
“I have the right to do anything,” you say, but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”, but not everything is constructive. Amen.
A choice is an act of picking or deciding between two or more options. In other words, it is the free will given to man to do as he deems fit. When God created mankind in Genesis 1:27, every attribute God had, including “WILL”, He gave man.
This free will allows us to choose from several options till we can come to an informed conclusion. This means most of our actions are a reflection of our own desires and not necessarily due to external impositions, as we often deceive ourselves into believing when our choices fail us.
Our Lord Jesus emphasizes that the way to heaven for anyone is if the individual by his/her free-will accepts salvation. That is why it is written in Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me”.
This means that our ability to be saved and remain saved ultimately depends on the choices we make daily; the choice to repent of sin and accept the Lord Jesus as Lord and personal Saviour or to remain in sin and face eternal condemnation, the choice to pray or not to, the choice to read God’s Word and keep His commandments or not to, the choice to fellowship or not, and the like.
The Bible says in Romans 2:6 that God “will repay each person according to what they have done”; thus emphasizing the importance of the choices we make daily.
As another day begins, begin to pray and ask God to influence your decisions that will help you in your walk with God.
