Topic: But Thou, Oh Lord!
Text: Psalm 3: 1-3 (KJV)
1.Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. 3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. Amen
When the Lord Jesus said in John 16: 33 that, in this world we will have many troubles, we really didn’t know it could be this much.
Trouble can encompass a believer in a way that logic cannot explain. A person’s own relatives or friends can set themselves against him at the time he needs them most.
Sometimes, trouble starts from home, then to the office. Continues even to church till the ungodly can mock and say “there’s no help in God for Him”.
But you see, God! Yes God! HE IS A SHIELD FOR THOSE WHO SEEK HIM. HE IS THEIR GLORY AND THE LIFTER UP OF THEIR HEADS. He says “… call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” (Ps 50: 15).
Don’t waste away in sorrow and grief. Do not brood over your disappointments forever. Commit all the chaos to God in prayer. Encourage yourself in the deliverance of the Lord because HE IS ABLE.
You see one day, the Moabites and Ammonites waged war against Jehoshaphat. In anguish, the king lead all Judah in a fast and inquired of the Lord. Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah. He said “Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. (2 Chron. 20: 15b).
Jahaziel continued “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.'” (2 Chronic. 20: 17).
The next day, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise Him for the splendor of His holiness. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the enemy and they destroyed themselves. (2 Chron. 20: 20- 23)
Rise up from the dust therefore, shake off the shackles. Remove the blindfold that blocks your vision from seeing victory at end of the tunnel. Do not forget that “many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Ps 34: 19). Begin to praise God in your storm and all who conspire against you will begin to destroy themselves.
