Today’s Devotion
Topic: Blessing of Forgiveness
Text: Psalm 32: 1 (NKJV)
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Amen.
There are offences thrown at us everyday, either from “allies” or “foes”. Sometimes it becomes difficult to forgive and let the pain go. Other times, we choose not to, so that the resentment we have for our “offender(s)” will provide the negative energy needed for our revenge. We decide to teach them a bitter lesson, so that they handle us better next time.
The question, however, is: which of us (the offended) is not an offender him/herself? Even if not often, do we not occasionally offend others and require them to forgive us? Why is it so difficult then, for us to forgive others even for the simplest offences?
You know, the Bible is packed with useful keys that unlock the promises of God on those who fear Him. One of such KEYS is FORGIVENESS. Psalm 32: 1, teaches that we are blessed when our transgressions or sins are forgiven. It is no secret that our loving Father is willing to extend forgiveness to even the vilest offender, but we have to do our part to receive the forgiveness He gives.
Here are a few of the things we must always do to enjoy the blessings of forgiveness:
i. repent or change our sinful ways
ii. forgive the many who offend us daily
iii. confess our sins to God and trust that He’s faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
iv. receive the forgiveness He gives with open hearts.
Beloved, have you offended anyone? Go and seek forgiveness from them and from God. Is there anyone in your life today that you need to forgive? Make the decision to forgive so that you can walk in the blessing of God’s forgiveness for you.
Forgiveness doesn’t condone wrong behaviour. It simply helps you release the offender from the debt they owe you so that God can release you from the debt you owe for your own transgressions. When you make the choice to forgive and allow God to heal your heart, you will be able to receive His forgiveness for you, and you will walk in His abundant blessings all the days of your life!
Begin to pray with the song, “Create in me a clean heart oh Lord…” Ask God to cleanse you of everything that isn’t pleasing to Him.
