Authentic Fire

Topic: Authentic Fire
Text: Exodus 3: 2

There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. Amen

Fire releases heat and gives light. It is well known for its ability to warm or burn things into several useful products when handled appropriately. If not, it can destroy everything in its way within the shortest possible time.

Moses was surprised to see a “strange” form of fire with flames that was not burning. This was very unusual since it is naturally impossible to see flames without fire, fire without the corresponding heat to burn. THAT WAS A SPECIAL KIND OF FIRE MOSES SAW. IT IS CALLED THE HOLY FIRE OF GOD. This mysterious fire is said to be authentic because:

i. Its source is the Lord God Almighty Himself. God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12: 29)

ii. It has incredible properties that are not susceptible to the laws of nature. It can set all things ablaze without burning them with heat as Moses experienced at Mount Horeb (Exodus 3: 2). It can blaze in water with ease too. Remember how Prophet Elijah invoked this fire to burn up the sacrifice and lick up the water in the trench around the altar he built to demonstrate the power of God (1 Kings 18: 38- 39).

iii. It has the unique ability to purify that which is of God and burn up all impurities at the same time. “…. for He will be as a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, He will purify the levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness (Malachi 3: 2b- 3).

iv. It will be used to test our works. Paul said “If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will TEST the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. (1 Corinthians 12- 14).

v. It directs, guides, gives light and shows the way. “By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of FIRE to give them light” (Exodus 13: 21a)

Dear beloved, what are we waiting for? Begin to pray right now. Lay all you are and have upon the altar of the Lord right now – your academics, marriage, career, failures, fears, failures, aspirations, possession etc.

Ask Him to consume you with His Holy Fire. He will burn away sin, chaff, laziness, procrastination, unbelief and any other thing in you that is contrary to His Word. Then He will refine you till you are as pure as gold. BE ON FIRE FOR JESUS!
