Topic: At The Verge Of Jordan?
Text: Joshua 3: 5, 7
5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow Jehovah will do wonders among you. 7 And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. Amen
Young man Joshua had followed Moses faithfully as a “mentee” and probably an assistant. He remained a trusted companion to Moses for a long time until the day Moses laid hands and transfered his great mantle him.
Such a huge mantle, who can bear it? A people so difficult to lead; the destination Canaan, still far from reach; with many hostile nations to confront, vast territories yet to conquer AND THE JORDAN TO CROSS! We can almost imagine fear and anxiety gripping the young man Joshua.
How was he going to lead this great nation across the mighty Jordan? It was at flood stage (Jos 3:14). He told all Isreal by faith “sanctify yourselves for tomorrow God will do WONDERS AMONG YOU. The Lord confirmed this by saying to Joshua, “this day (not tomorrow), I will begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Isreal, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so will I be with you!” Hallelujah!
The priest and levites were commanded by God to carry the ark of the covenant (which represents the presence of God), and go right ahead of the assembly. “AS SOON AS THEIR FEET TOUCHED THE VERGE OF THE JORDAN, THE WATER UPSTREAM STOPPED FLOWING. IT PILED UP IN A HEAP A GREAT DISTANCE AWAY,…. WHILE THE WATER FLOWING DOWN… WAS COMPLETELY CUT OFF”. SO THE PEOPLE CROSSED OVER….!” (Jos 3: 15b-16).
Beloved, what is the Jordan that stands before you right now and the people you lead? How terrified are you about your new assignment in life as a manager, supervisor, newly wedded couple with a newly born child, newly ordained priest, new employee and new believer.
Sanctify yourself before the Lord and trust His abilities to do wonders through you to the glory of His name. Pray that His presence goes ahead of you in all that you do. He will confirm your faith with mind blowing testimonies before the eyes of all by folding up the Jordan like He did the red sea. So they may know that the Lord is with you too.
Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Your God is able to accomplish all which concerns you. “Even the winds and the waves obey Him”(Mat 8: 27b). By the power of His word, this Jordan ahead of you will remain rolled up, and you will walk through on dry land until you safely reach Canaan’s shore.
