Topic: As Long As There’s Morning
Text: Lamentations 3: 22- 23
22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; 3 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Amen
Not everyday ends the way we expect it to. At times we wake up full of hopes and fruitful plans for the day, but by evening, it seems like all those plans have been dashed to the ground. Others meet each new day with a lot of uncertainties and fears, and by the time they return at night, they are even worse off than before.
This situation is very similar to what Jeremiah describes in the book of Lamentations chapter 3. He says, ‘I cry out, “My splendor is gone! Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!” The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.’ (verses 18-20)
Then he quickly turns to say, ‘Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!” The Lord is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him.’ (verses 21-24)
Beloved, the truth is that weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5b). As long as there’s morning, you can be rest assured that the steadfast love of the LORD and His mercies which are new every morning will surely locate you because, He is faithful to His Word. He will give you exactly what you need for life and for godliness in each day. Choose not to give up, no matter what comes your way. Wait on the Lord; your morning comes soon.
This assurance of God’s mercies for us being new every morning is very much like what He said to Himself in the days of Noah: “As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night” (Genesis 8:22). You can trust this assurance and ‘still dare to hope’.
In the end, you will say together with the Psalmist; “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!” (Psalm 30:11-12)
