Arise, Go and Cry Text: Jonah 1:2 (KJV)

Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. Amen

The word of God had come to Jonah to go to the people of Nineveh but he found himself asleep in the lower decks of a ship headed in the opposite direction.

Beloved, the great commission is still heavens last chance to reach our “unsaved” world for Christ yet like Jonah, we are all running opposite direction. Actually, when you know something to be right and you don’t live by it, then you are living opposed to it. There is no neutral position with God. It is either you obey Him, or you do not (opposite position not neutral).

Now, three times in the book of Jonah God gives him a threefold imperative; ARISE, GO, and CRY.

Arise literally means wake up. Unfortunately like Jonah, we love the horizontal position (sleeping) and God is forever waking us up because we are out of touch with the storm that is raging out there in the world. Child of God, the night is far spent and our generation need THE LORD. Arise, watch and pray for our generation.

Go means to move or proceed (take action, do something now). We are called to the task of sending the gospel to all parts of the world because “the harvest is plenteous but the labourers are few”. The great commission requires those who are ready to move and not count the cost.

Cry in our context means to announce publicly. Most of us think that evangelism should be reserved for Evangelists, Reverend Ministers, Pastors etc. We however forget the word of God is even more relevant in our immediate surroundings; offices, social clubs, dormitories, lecture halls, homes etc. WE ARE ALL INVOLVED.

Make 2014 your year of evangelism. Reach out to a sinner today just as someone reached out to you some time past. Together let us win our world for CHRIST. Begin to pray now.
