Always Doing Good

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Always Doing Good
Text: Acts 9: 36- 39

36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was ALWAYS DOING GOOD AND HELPING THE POOR. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”

39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Amen

Anyone could die in Joppa that day and they won’t bother Peter about it, but not Dorcas. No, they cannot be silent. This one is too good to be gone from the land of the living. After all, how many are known to ALWAYS DO GOOD AND HELP THE POOR.

This she did, not for political favour or personal advantage, but as a godly duty to change and support the lives of the vulnerable in society. All the widows had evidence that demonstrated the practical approach Dorcas adopted to change their lives. That is why they can’t accept her death.

As a matter of fact, if it is true that there’s a great God in heaven who works miracles through His servants, then let us call Peter, tell him our sorrow concerning Dorcas’ death and show him evidence of her kind heart. This one must live for all of us widows and poor people.

Beloved, if that is not intercession, then what will it be? The people on their own seeking God’s intervention through His servant because Dorcas was more useful to many in the land of the living.

Child of God, can the same be said about you, please? Are you always doing good and helping the poor? How are you sacrificing in order to touch lives and be a blessing to those who know you? Are you one of the many who give strategically where they can reap back? Do you think many are necessitated to pray and intercede for you while you sleep because God, through you, touch their lives in many ways? Think about it!

With Dorcas, Peter was given no choice than to abandon whatever he was doing at Lydda and come to her aid. May the love you have demonstrated in others inspire them to bring you help in your “dying need day”. Begin to pray now. Ask for the generous heart of Christ that deems it a privilege to serve and bless others as Christ blesses the church daily.

Many lives hang in the balance while several others need a touch of love. Let us reach out and help them stand so that they may also help others to stand. We must not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Gal 6: 9). God is not unjust to forget our labour of love.

Be a ‘Dorcas’ from today; ALWAYS DO GOOD AND HELP THE POOR, FOR YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHEN THE “POOR” WILL BRING THE GREATEST HELP YOU NEED TO BE ALIVE AND BACK ON YOUR FEET AGAIN!
