Topic: “All Is Well” Mum!
Reading: 2 Kings 4:18-37
When the thoughtful Shunammite woman and her husband agreed to accommodate and serve Elisha, the prophet, in their house anytime he was passing by and needed a place to rest, they moved the spirit of the man of God till he prophesied that by a year that time, the couple would have a child; and it came to pass.
However, when the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers. And he said to his father, “Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.” And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died. His mother laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door behind her and went out.
Then she called to her husband and said, “Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, that I may quickly go to the man of God and come back again.” And he said, “Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath.” She said, “All is well.” Then she saddled the donkey, and she said to her servant, “Urge the animal on; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.
When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite. Run at once to meet her and say to her, ‘Is all well with you? Is all well with your husband? Is all well with the child?’” And she answered, “All is well.” And when she came to the mountain; to the man of God, she caught hold of his feet in bitter distress. She didn’t understand why or how her ‘miracle son’ should die at that age.
Elisha went with her and prayed over the boy till he was brought back to life, and then presented him to his mother.
Beloved, mothers are a gift from God. They bear almost all the burdens of everyone within their households while doing everything possible to help find the solutions needed. More often than not, between the challenges we face, and the solutions we seek, are our dear MOTHERS who carry a lot of “IT IS WELL” in their spirits for us. They have enough “it is well” for their unemployed husbands, and an “it is well” for their troubled children. They maintain an “it is well” when times are hard, and yet another “it is well” even when a matter is so bad.
Every “it is well” mothers profess brings them closer to the solutions needed to actually make things well. Because they make such declarations in faith and then back their faith with actions. They take practical steps to make every “IT IS WELL” a reality for the people that surround their household.
As we celebrate mums on this special day, let us take it upon ourselves to bear their burdens as they always have for us, and assure them with the same “it is well” they have always strengthened us with; even when times are hard.
Tell mum “is it well”; for her labour won’t be in vain as long as Jehovah liveth. Tell mum you love her, and that “it is well” if the others don’t. Tell mum “it is well” as far as her challenges with health are concerned.
Now do not just declare “it is well” and go to sleep. However, just as mothers do for us; pray for them and about their situation too. Then take practical steps to be used by God to make things as well for them as possible.
May God bless all mothers and make them prosper and be in good health, even as their souls prosper in Jesus name.
