Topic: A Summary Of Our Calling
Text: Exodus 32: 26
So he stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the Levites rallied to him. Amen
God has, from eternity, given man the freedom to choose. He spoke once again to Moses to proclaim to the people of Israel; “Who is on the Lord’s side?” The Levites who rallied with him became the Called.
This question may therefore arise; “Who are the called in our dispensation?” Well, it is “those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ — their Lord and ours.” (1 Cor. 1: 2)
Our calling, however, is a call to duty. The duties include firstly fulfilling the GREAT COMMISSION — that is the “Go Ye” commission of preaching the Word to all nations. (Mark 16: 15- 16)
It is also a call unto good works. We are obliged to live lives worthy of the calling upon our lives. This we do by being completely humble and gentle, being patient and bearing with one another in love (Eph. 4:1-2). By this shall all men see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
We are called to be ambassadors and imitators of Christ. You see; “We are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us (2 Cor 5: 20a). For that matter, we ought to “let this mind be in us, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Phil 2: 5-8 )
We are again called to be passionate about the plight of others and to be intercessors for all men, including those in darkness. James 5:16 says, “Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. For the fervent prayer of the righteous man avails a lot.” Apostle Paul also said to Timothy, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.” (1 Timothy 2:1)
We are yet again called to be eternity-conscious; “to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Col 3:2); and to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, so that all other things can be added unto us. (Matt 6:33)
Finally, we are called to endure to the end. Remember Jesus said in Matthew 24:13 that “the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” He also mentioned in Revelation 3:21 that, “To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
Beloved, meditate on all the above and identify the areas in which you fall short. Begin to pray about them. Ask the Holy Spirit to endow you with all that pertains to righteousness, so that you can endure to the end. Also, plead that He helps you live a life worthy of your calling. So that your hard labour in the Lord does not be in vain.
