Topic: A Passionate Prophet Vrs His Evil King (Part 2)

Background:
Last week we begun a series to try and learn from two of Israel’s leaders; king Ahab and prophet Elijah, who clearly had opposing orientations and goals. The king stood for everything that desecrated the land, while the prophet did everything to bring Israel’s attention back to God.
We also learnt from James 5: 17 that, “Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
But since Elijah lived in the same land he declared will not see rain except at his word, how had he hoped to survive the drought? How did he actually manage to sail through those difficult times, and what lessons can we learn from that?

*Text*: 1 Kings 17: 2- 6
2 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah:3 “Leave here, turn eastward and of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”
5 So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. Amen.
Questions:
1. Kindly read verse 2- 3 again. Why do you think the Lord asked Elijah to leave where he made the declaration and head eastwards towards the Jordan?
2. “You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” How remarkable is that statement, and how does it assure us that the Lord is a faithful Provider?
3. Kindly read verse 5 again. In order to receive the blessings of having consistent water and food to eat, Elijah did exactly what the Lord had told him to do. And yes, He received the promise as was told him. What can we learn from this?
4. According to verse 6, ravens brought Elijah bread and meat in the morning and again in the evening, and he drank from the brook. You can tell that although the Lord promised that ravens will be bringing him food, the Lord didn’t actually explain the details in terms of the period of supply and the menu. Obviously, the package was much better than what any person could have prayed for in a drought. What can we say about this, and what does it tell us about our God and the promises He gives?
