Topic: A Loyal Spirit
Text: Ps 51:10-11
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Amen
Indeed none of us is perfect. Day in and out, we get involved with things that do not please God our Redeemer. A number of times we find ourselves struggling with desires that seek to draw us from God.
Sometimes we throw in the towel by quoting Apostle Paul in Romans 7: 19: “the good I desire to do, I’m not able to. But the evil I do not desire to do, that is what I do.” We act along sin’s dictates like a people destined to live and die in sin. That is a lie from the devil. Jesus paid the price for sin and death so that we will be the righteousness of God.
Today’s scripture teaches us to cultivate a LOYAL SPIRIT instead of “accepting defeat”. David had shed innocent blood and yet He run back to God to seek forgiveness and ask for a loyal spirit.
A Loyal Spirit is one:
i. which does not make a ‘practice of sinning’ (1 John 3: 6) nor desires to dwell in sin.
ii. that ALWAYS RETURNS TO GOD for forgiveness with a repented heart.
Beloved, let us not glorify the flesh and the weaknesses it brings until it breeds sin in our hearts and eventually separate us from God. Our Father in heaven desires to have a lasting relationship and fellowship with you. Let NOTHING separate you from His love.
Pray therefore that the mind of Christ dwell richly in you (Colossians 3: 16). This will keep your heart focused on things godly and eternal. Also, learn to walk in the spirit so that you do not gratify the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16)
Should we sin, we can always run to the loving arms of the Father for forgiveness. Why must any of us die in sin when mercy overflows from the throne of grace to cleanse even the vilest offender and make him whole? Begin to pray now.
