Text: Matthew 8: 14 -15
14. When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. 15. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.
Peter, as a disciple of Jesus had walked with Him and seen the master perform many miracles. He healed every kind of sickness that was brought to Him,cast out demons and a whole lot of miracles.
Jesus arrives at Peter’s house to realize that Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever and obviously needing a healing. Peter had had experiences of Jesus healing people and he knew that the master will heal his mother-in-law. The master does what He does best- healing people and delivering them that are oppressed of the devil. He touched her hand, and the fever left her.
After receiving her healing, this woman does something amazing and worthy of emulation; she got up and prepared a meal for Him. Her response to Jesus’ touch was to wait on the Him-immediately. She recognized and appreciated the healing she had received from Jesus and waited on Him immediately.
Like the woman in her sick state, most of us have been in situations which needed the hand of God to intervene. In our distress, pain, sorrow and confusion, we cried out to God to help us. Yes He did show up, but what has been our attitude after that? How has our attitude towards prayer and bible study been? How about the support we pledged to the course of Christ?
The time is now to wait on the Lord and respond to Him. No more delays, no more procrastinations. No more lazying about after we have received the touch of God. This is not the time to sleep and make merry because Jesus answered your call. The master awaits you NOW! Our response to Him should be immediate after realising what He has done for us.
Our willingness and desire to respond to the touch of God is a proof of our genuine love for Him and our gratitude. Begin to pray now. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you yield to His promptings as to the things to do for God that will bless His heart. Also challenge yourself that henceforth, your response to the things of God will stem from whole hearted devotion and it will be immediate. He’s King and deserves our best.
