Topic: Lord If It Is You
Text: Matthew 14: 28
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” Amen
Upon hearing that John the Baptist has been beheaded, Jesus withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed Him on foot from the towns. So that when He landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Five thousand of them were fed that day, besides the women and children.
Soon afterwards, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowd. Then He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. Later that night, He was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” He said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught Him. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14: 22- 33).
Dearly Beloved, the storms that batter and threaten to wreck our boats, have no power over our Lord Jesus Christ. Just in case you have forgotten who He is.
The way you are complaining lately about all the difficult things you have had to go through, is making us wonder if you have perhaps forgotten that our Jesus is Master of the sea, King of the flood and Lord over the storm. He walks upon them, like we do a woolen carpet.
All we have to do, is to remember that He is with us through the storm. Peter said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Soon as He said “COME”, Peter could now walk on the very storm that terrified him all night long, until he doubted in his heart.
Beloved, in these many storms we find ourselves lately, we still have nothing to be afraid of. Jesus is with us all the way and He lands us safely on the other side. The winds obey Him, yes, and He walks upon the sea. Just COME to Him with all your problems and trust Him. He will cease the ragings of the season from threatening you any further. Till the storm is over and you can acknowledge Him as the Son of God and worship Him with all your heart. Come to Jesus now! See you at church.
