Topic: Being Rich Towards God!
Text : Luke 12: 16- 21
16 And He told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17 The rich man thought to himself, ‘‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ 18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? 21’ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” Amen
To be rich towards God is to love Him with all our hearts and to love our fellow man as ourselves. To submit to the word of God even if it doesn’t sound pleasing. To have the mind of Christ dwell richly in us and possess a heart intent on pleasing Him. Generally, it is the ability to understand that we are not our own. We belong to God and that all we have is for His purpose and to His glory.
At that position, you will just realise that we are simply stewards of all that seem to be ours. Including what we earn or gain from our hardwork. Those things are just borrowed from grace to help brighten our lives and the lives of others.
Such is the attitude to sustain the blessings of God upon our lives. Such must be the desire of all who will remain rich in all things.
Therefore “command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Tim 6 : 17 – 19)
There is no reason harbouring wealth so one can satisfy his own:
I. while the kingdom business of God suffers lack and souls keep perishing.
ii. without considering those in need around him. You know that true religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is to look after the needy, vulnerable, destitute, orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1: 27).
iii. without considering the fact we are only caretakers of all our possessions. Life itself is borrowed to us and we will give account of it some day.
iv. and secure the future, when that very future is owned by God alone. And only He determines what happens in the future and who gets to see it.
Family in Christ, we are called to be rich in good deeds; being generous and willing to share. In that way, we will lay up treasures for ourselves as a firm foundation for the coming age,SO THAT THEY MAY TAKE HOLD OF THE LIFE THAT IS TRULY LIFE.
On the day the Lord calls, generosity, kindness, love and our righteousness in Christ will go with us to that precious place where earthly wealth cannot go. Meditate on this and begin to pray. Thank God for the grace that makes you rich towards Him. Plead for the wisdom and humility to walk in God’s blessing knowing that it’s all His and we are only stewards.
Also, ask the Holy Spirit to open you up towards the needs of the church, ministers and the people around you. God will use your life, to show that He cares. He will answer prayers through your obedience to the call and remember all your sacrifices in the day of trouble (Psalm 20). Make a decision to bless today and everyday, so as to be more blessed both now and forever, IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME. Click here for More of God: https://youtu.be/_LFq-ZepNbw
