Topic: Witnesses!
Text: Luke 24: 40- 49
40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42 They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and He took it and ate it in their presence. 44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalm”.
45 Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. Amen
After His resurrection, our Lord made several appearances to His friends and some of His disciples.
On this particular occasion, He showed them His wounds and ate in their presence to prove that He was not a ghost. He also opened their minds to understand the holy scriptures, and gave them summary of what the redemption plan was all about:
i. The Christ must suffer (verse 46)
ii. The Christ must rise from the dead (verse 46)
iii. Repentance and forgiveness of sin will be preached in His name to all nations (verse 47).
The first 2 items (i &ii) above, have been fulfilled by our Lord Jesus. Now is our time to preach repentance in His name to all nations.
He has opened our understanding to the scriptures and made us witnesses of His life, death and resurrection. It is impossible to experience Christ and not evangelise to those who are lost.
Let us go into the world therefore and preach the gospel to all and sundry. Tell of God’s wondrous love to the soul that is perishing.
