Topic: Even The Heathens Know!
Text: Daniel 6: 16
16 So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!” Amen
Some issues are facts, verifiable by science and logic. Others are truths, undeniable and fundamental eternal principles that underscore all things both material and spiritual, including facts.
So, the fact of the matter was that, Daniel had violated the king’s orders, hence must face the corresponding punishment, the hungry lions. But the truth is, he was only a victim of the circumstance. The system was set as a trap just to frame him up and get him out of the way because too distinguished for their comfort.
King Darius was bound by law to oversee Daniel’s execution. He is a heathen. But he knew the fundamental truth that if it was God Daniel was serving day and night, then He will rescue Daniel.
How did Darius know this truth? He may have been told of the terrible things that happened to Nebuchadnezzar and His successor, Belshazzar in Daniel chapters 3 and 4, when they disregarded God. He may even have noticed the wonders of God being displayed in Daniel’s life. By this, he was convinced God will always be on Daniel’s side to rescue him(Daniel 6: 3).
However, the most instructive and highly probably explanation is that inner conviction we all have that God is truth. Even the “least” we know about Him reveals all His nature and personality. We don’t need organised religion to know He’s all powerful, faithful and a deliverer. He rescues the innocent from the hands of his captors and forgives the vilest offender who confesses. He was definitely going to rescue DANIEL!
Beloved, sometimes heathens know truths about our God than we do. We are often engrossed in our own situation and feel there’s no hope at all. We preach truth until we find it being tested in our own lives, then we are found wanting.
To those who continually serve the Lord, yet having to deal with one terrible mistreatment or another; anyone framed up and being carried away; everyone in pain and disarray; know for a fact that your situation will not be the same forever. This is because the truth is YOUR GOD WILL SURELY COME AND SAVE. Even heathens know this very well.
Convicted by the TRUTH that God will rescue them from the fiery furnace, the three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meshac and Abednego, refused to bow to the craven image of king Nebuchadnezzar. But even if it happened that God does not rescue, they chose to die holding on to what the knew to be truth. The test was high but their faith was higher. They knew truth transcended time unto eternity. So that even if they died holding on to what was true, they would be vindicated in the life after death. (Daniel chapter 3)
Jesus is the WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE! CLING TO HIM UNTO ETERNITY. NO MATTER YOUR STRUGGLE. AND THE GOD WHOM YOU CONTINUALLY SERVE, WILL RESCUE YOU FROM ALL EVIL.
