Blessed beyond A Curse

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Blessed beyond A Curse (Fasting Day 13- Self Assessment)
Text: Numbers Chapters 22- 24

Background: We thank God for another wonderful day to glorify His Name. We have for the past 12 days been looking at how the blessings of God are able to protect His people from every form of curse. Balak’s several attempts to compel a curse on Israel proved futile. By heeding the prompting of the Holy Spirit, Balaam refused to utter anything contrary to what he received from the Lord. His spirit man was opened to perceive and proclaim only the blessings of God over Israel. Balak refuses to pay Balaam for this, but the diviner prefers to obey God than to follow riches and go against the will of God.

Precious One, kindly take some time off and recap all we have been discussion from numbers chapters 22 through 24. Share with us the revelations the Holy Spirit gives you.

Questions:

  1. Balak was terrified as Israel approached his territory. He tried convincing Balaam to curse the people of God. How did he hope to entice Balaam into such a diabolical conspiracy and why is “that kind of bait” such a convincing tool? (Numbers 22: 17).
  2. Why was Balak terrified of Israel in the first place? (Numbers 22: 2- 6)
  3. When Balak convinced Balaam to curse Israel a second time, the oracle revealed that “God is not a man, that He should lie, .. does He speak and then not act?” (Numbers 23: 19). How should these words comfort every one of us going through a difficult time right now?
  4. As long as Israel remained under the blessings and protection of God, no one could harm them. What must we do as children of God to remain under the blessings of God? (Numbers 24: 13, Psalm 24: 3- 6, Psalm 27: 4)
