Topic: Eat The Word Now!
Text: Amos 8: 11- 12
“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. Amen.
Food, some have argued is for survival. Making hunger not a good thing at all. Truth be told, many have been lured into evils and vices, just because of food. Famine, simply defined, is the wide spread of extreme hunger.
You will know how bad hunger is when you remember that just a little of it caused the Israelites, who had been redeemed by God from Egypt, to wish they had remained back there as slaves (because they had food at least ). Essau too sold his birthright to his younger twin due to hunger.
To avoid hunger and famine therefore, we (humans) have made striving efforts in scientific research just to develop practical ways to ensure food sustainability. So that hunger is prevented and bodies, well fed. THIS WE HAVE DONE SO WELL SO FAR FOR THE BODY, YET NEGLECTING THE SOUL TO FEND FOR ITSELF.
THE FOOD OF THE SOUL IS THE WORD OF GOD. Sadly however, this kind of feeding remains unappealing, uninviting and very difficult for many of us. We would rather eat and overeat physical foods even if they are not good for our body; than to sit down and eat the WORD OF GOD INTO OUR SPIRITMAN TO FEED THE SOUL. “NO! THAT IS TOO HARD” WE SAY. WE WOULD RATHER WATCH TV, BE ON OUR PHONES OR COMPUTERS, OR EVEN HANG OUT WITH FRIENDS OR MAYBE SLEEP.
Well since we consciously or unconsciously despise the WORD of GOD and have given it little importance in our lives, God says one day He will bring to pass a kind of famine – extreme hunger. A hunger not for physical food, but for the Word of God that brings salvation.
He says, “People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.”
Beloved, imagine a world without the Word of God. Imagine it! That is why He is saying people will STAGGER from sea to sea searching for it. Do not wait to be one of such. All laws both moral and civic, devrive their source from the word of God anyway. The manual showing how to live here on earth in order to please our Maker.
Yes, it is the lamp to our feet leading us all to the LIGHT. IT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL SURVIVE AFTER HEAVEN AND EARTH PASSES AWAY. THE ONLY FOOD TO SUSTAIN YOUR SOUL NOW FOR ETERNITY.
Therefore…”Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6). Feed your soul with the WORD as often as you desire to feed your flesh with physical food.
One day, everyone will realize that the only thing that mattered in life was to fear God and OBEY HIS WORD. Don’t wait to find out that indeed all this is true and you were so wrong. Eat the word today and everyday. Feed so much that when the days of famine come you would have enough treasure stored within. Remember man is not to live by bread alone but by every word that comes from God.
Today is sunday, and a beautiful one as such. It is also the first day of the 11th month. Wow! Thank God and resolve to draw nearer to Him. Feeding on His word while you have the chance to.
