Today’s Devotion
Topic: Overcome All the “What Ifs?”
Text: 2 Timothy 1: 17
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” Amen.
God’s desire is that we continually progress, that we reach higher heights and go to new levels in Him.
Often times, as soon as we make the decision to step out in faith and obey God, the enemy brings in fear to hinder us. He’ll bring thoughts like, “What if you fail?, What are other people going to think? You don’t have what it takes and so on and forth.” …He uses fear to keeps us in our shells so we remain where we are.
Now, from the passage we can agree that fear is a spirit that can play on our emotions and hold us back. The good news however, is that we have power over the spirit of fear! 1 John 4: 18 declares; “there is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
You see, when we receive God’s perfect love, we will have confidence in Him about the future because we know His plans are for our good. We will not depend on our physical abilities nor look only at our physical circumstance to make decisions. We will rather depend on what HIS LOVE for us can do!
Here is a popular acronym for fear:
i. False
ii. Evidence
iii. Appearing
iv. Real
Understand that fear is a lie. Don’t buy that lie. Instead, choose to believe God’s Word and receive His love so that you can overcome fear and move forward into the blessings He has prepared for you!
Begin to pray! Remember – fear is a spirit; it can hear, move, see and manipulate. If so, then COMMAND it out of your life in the name of Jesus! Cast out every fear that has limited you all these years and declare by faith that you “can do all things through Christ who strenghtens you!” Also, pray earnestly for the love of Christ to abound in your life, filling all the gaps and loopholes that the spirit of fear created.
