Let Your Light So Shine!

Topic: Let Your Light So Shine!
Text: Matthew 5: 16

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”. Amen

Our Lord Jesus Christ made this profound statement after telling the multitudes that, they are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

When we get born again, we are translated from the kingdom of darkness into the marvelous kingdom of light. Once that happens, we become the light that should bring illumination to this dark world of sin.

The Jesus in us, always shines Himself so bright that everywhere He dwells, darkness cannot comprehend. If it is true that Jesus resides in our hearts, then His bright light will radiate through our works. He cannot be hidden.

Here are a few things to note about being the “Light of the World”:

i. As “Lights of this world”, we have the responsibility of letting our light shine, so that others may also come into the light. This means rejecting every form of darkness and getting closer to God through consistent prayer, bible study and obedience. The closer we get to Jesus, the more like Him we become. Paul told the church in Ephesus “…. you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Therefore, live as children of light” (Ephesians 5: 8)

ii. God doesn’t expect our light to just shine, it must SO SHINE for others to see. The expression of this light must produce DEEDS that are good, visible and tangible. It should therefore be impossible to be a “child of the light” and not exhibit the good deeds that this special light produces. God never made us the light of the world for us to brighten our rooms, but that the world at large may know Him tangibly through us.

iii. Also, the shining of the light must be sincere. Sin breaks our connectivity with the Father and pulls us from the source of light (Jesus). It is impossible to dwell in sin and still shine forth as the “light of the world”. Unrepented sin dims our lights and eventually quenches it.

iv. Finally, the shining of our light is to bring glory to God and not man. God works in us both to will and to do according to His good pleasure. If it is God working in us to shine His bright light, why do we want the praise for ourselves? When men notice our good deeds, they must glorify God.

Begin to pray now! Surrender your life to Him who is the source of all LIGHT. Ask that He shines your darkness away, sow His seed of righteousness in you, and cause your light to so shine before men so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
