Back To The Father!

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Back To The Father!
Text: 1 Samuel 9: 3, 5

Now the donkeys belonging to Saul’s father Kish were lost, and Kish said to his son Saul, “Take one of the servants with you and go and look for the donkeys.”. 5. When they reached the district of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, Come let’s go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us.” Amen.

Uncle Kish had some donkeys that had gone missing. He called his son Saul to go in search of those donkeys with one of his servants. After the two men toiled and searched to no avail, Saul told the youngman ” Come! lets go back, or father will stop worrying about the donkeys and start worrying about us”.

Most often when faced with life’s pressures and demands, we become so bent on getting on top of issues that we forget we’ve gone far from home and our heavenly Father is getting “worried” about us.

We are so determined to finish that course, get that job, find that spouse and realise our dreams that we sometimes fail to realise all that is making us backslide further away from the God we love.

You see, when life’s pursuits takes us so far that we forget whose we are, where we started from, why we started this journey in the first place and where we are going, then there’s a problem.

Saul knew that even though his father wanted him to find the donkeys, Kish cherished the life of his son more. So after searching for so long, he remembered he had to go back to his father.

This is how God wants us to be. Let’s not search for these material needs and forget about the God who set us on this course in the first place. Our Father in Heaven cares so much for us than for any of the material things we are looking for. He knows what we need and He will do more than we could ever ask or think.

Beloved, don’t even think of going on without Him. Remember your God and take that bold step back to His loving arms. Forget those obsessions and get back to your first love.

Always remember, God loves you more than anything else you will achieve or possess. As a matter of fact, it is He who gives us the ability to produce wealth (Deuteronomy 8: 18)

Rise up, don’t be lazy. It’s time to return to the loving arms of the Father. Let’s not go empty handed or without any words in our hearts and songs on our lips. But let’s approach Him with a grateful heart and appreciate how far He’s brought us and seek His presence with us for the journeys ahead.
