Today’s Devotion
Topic: The Lord Himself Will Fight For You!
Text: Exodus 14: 10- 14
10 As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, 11 and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt?
12 Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”
13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. 14 The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Amen
When the Israelites realised all the armies of pharoah had been deployed against them, they became afraid. It became worse when the Egyptian army caught up with them. They began to make certain mistakes that we still make today when trouble surrounds us:
i. They panicked (verse 10): Fear is the breeding ground for evil to strike. Courage and absolute confidence in the word of God is both our weapon and victory.
ii. They prayed and complained at the same time (verses 10b & 11a): Mostly we cry unto God and then complain to man. But remember that each complain we make questions and mocks our faith in God’s ability to deliver.
iii. They wished they were back in Egypt: These people were in slavery for years and cried to God for deliverance. Now in the face of adversity, they murmur “FAITHLESSLY” as if God came to deliver them against their will and can not even defend them.
iv. They predicted evil and reminded Moses what they said in the face of adversity(verse 12): Even before their exodus, they had no faith in God to deliver which is very surprising indeed.
Beloved, for every positive action we take, adversity will come. We must not faint or talk “FAITHLESSLY”. For a double minded person is unstable in all his ways and should not expect to receive anything from the Lord (James 1: 7-8)
Dearly beloved, today begins both a new month and week, learn from all the above and apply its wisdom to your every circumstance. No matter what you are going through or what may come your way, remember the words of Moses: don’t be afraid, stand still and watch the Lord, FOR THE LORD HIMSELF WILL FIGHT FOR YOU. Begin to pray now!
