Topic: They Will Send For You!
Text: 1 Samuel 16: 11
11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” Amen
Samuel was on the search for the next king of Israel. The reigning King Saul had rejected the Lord by grossly disobeying instructions of war given by the prophet. The Lord led Samuel to Bethlehem then, to the house of Jesse. One of his sons will be king of Israel. The question however is, which of them? They are eight.
During the sacrifice, Jesse had all 7 of his sons present, pass in front of Samuel. They might have been well built and groomed because some served in the army. When Samuel saw Eliab for instance, he thought “surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord” (1 Samuel 16: 6)
However, the Lord said to Samuel, “do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16: 7). Wow!
The prophet was therefore compelled to ask Jesse, “are these all the sons you have? “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “SEND FOR HIM; whoever he might be, JUST SEND FOR HIM. For we will not sit down until he arrives.”
Beloved, from the counsel God gave Samuel (that man looks at the outward appearance but He looks into the heart), we can easily tell that the things that distinguish a person from another may be more divine than physical.
What is the position of your heart towards God? How deep is your relationship with Him? How far do you go for His sake even when the Pastor is not watching? Think deeply about these because the Lord sees everything. Where there is loyalty and faithfulness towards Him, He knows. He sees your heart and even sees what family members and friends fail to recognise.
On the day of honor and promotion, they will send for you. You must arrive before they sit down. Even if you are in the wilderness with the stench of sheep all over you. Yes, even if you are the youngest with no physical appeal or special skill. So long as the search for the next king of Isreal remains a priority, they will definitely send for you.
People may not have valued you well enough to see how you can merit such honor. But the truth is, God honors those who honor Him. Although their love for Him may not be regarded by others, He (God) honors them publicly and proves His faithfulness in their lives.
Take heart therefore and don’t even feel sad that you are the only one tending daddy’s sheep. At God’s appointed time, they will send for you. It wouldn’t even matter if they almost went ahead without you, God will make them locate you. For man looks at the outward appearance but God looks into the heart.
Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Especially you who feel forsaken for righteousness sake. Ask the Lord to help you love Him even more and not to get easily discouraged when men do not necessarily recognise your worth. Knowing that on the day of honor, THEY WILL NOT SIT DOWN UNTIL YOU ARRIVE. NEVER FEEL FORGOTTEN, THEY WILL SEND FOR YOU.
