Topic: I Will Give You Rest!
Text: Matthew 11: 28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Amen
One day Jesus was preaching to a crowd and said to them “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, And I will give you rest.” (Mat 11: 27- 28)
Did Jesus really say so? Then what are we waiting for? In a world of pressures, burdens and cares, we all could use some rest.
Several things weigh us down both emotionally and psychologically. The economy, the polity, the uncertainties, the self-imposed aspirations and their deadlines really get the better part of us.
But you know the greatest of all our burdens is SIN; that act of disobedience that separates us from God and makes us susceptible to all forms of attacks and evil influences.
In our days, it is a blessing to have someone listen to your problem for an hour, even more, to help you out. Everyone is very burdened by their own pressures. That is why Jesus’ invitation to us this morning is crucial.
Hurry up then; join the procession. Jesus is waiting for us. Bring it all, don’t leave any of it behind. Bring the fears, conflicts, pain, hurts, sin, struggles, needs and wants. Call on the name of Jesus. Hand them over to Him.
Then rise up, shake off the dust of yesterday’s worries and begin this new day with a smile. Take rest in the promise of the Lord, that faithful is He who has called; and He will do it (1 Thess 5: 24). If anyone should ask of your problems, tell them they are “rolled away in the blood of Jesus” (TWI: Ne nyinaa asa, wo Yesu mogya no mu). Begin to pray now! Rest awaits you in Christ, Come quickly!
