A True Leader

Topic: A True Leader
Text: 1 Kings 10: 23- 25, 27

23 King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. 24 The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. 25 Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift— articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules. 27 THE KING MADE SILVER AS COMMON IN JERUSALEM AS STONES, AND CEDAR AS PLENTIFUL AS SYCAMORE-FIG TREES IN THE FOOTHILLS. Amen

The unction to succeed upon the leader and the covenant between this same leader and God, is very crucial in determining the fate of the household, group, association, organization or nation. Before King Solomon would turn away from God and set his heart on foreign women, he was a great king. He sought for a discerning heart to govern Israel when he got the opportunity to ask anything from the Lord. He chose well.

“11 So the Lord said to him, since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will NEVER have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover I will give you what you have not asked for- both riches and honour- so that in your life time you will have no equal among kings” (1 Kings 3: 11- 13)

Now the above covenant, coupled with the special favour David, Solomon’s father, had with the Lord was a huge blessing to all of Israel during Solomon’s reign. The wisdom God blessed Him with attracted visitors from across the world. Each came along with the treasures from their lands, making Israel more prosperous than all.

There was enough silver in the pockets of the ordinary citizen for business as there were stones for “killing birds”. In effect, this young and inexperienced king was used by God to change the fortunes of the Israelites because he didn’t seek his own interest in office but sought wisdom from the Lord to govern His people.

Meditate on this! Are you a leader? What kind of supernatural blessings are you attracting for your followers? What is the covenant that endorses your leadership and with which deity do you have such covenant? Begin to pray now for all leaders… we must attract blessings for those we lead.
