Living Waters

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Living Waters
Text: Isaiah 41:17-18

17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. 18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. Amen

You may go without food for a number of days and still make a few days more, but try thirst for some fewer days and you may not survive. Water is not just essential, it is Life; without which no living thing can survive. It refreshes both land and soul.

Of all things, water and air should have been the most expensive. Yet God supplies them in abundance. So that when you meet anyone who is too poor to afford water, then it is a devastating situation. To all such, the Lord says: “I will not forsake you”.

Sometimes the hunger and thirst is for righteousness. Jesus says all such will be filled (Matthew 5: 6). Other times it’s because the journey through life’s desert is having a big toll on us (Genesis 21: 15- 19, John 4: 4-6). It could also be because life has been a cycle of hopelessness, where we have lived a life of sin and still found no fulfilment in them (John 4: 7- 15).

Many others become thirsty as they run from the battlefield (Judges 4: 17- 19). And like Jesus on the cross, many get thirsty from all the sufferings they are put through in their quest to do God’s will (John 19: 28). Rise up this morning and enter the throne room of God especially if you’re dry, tired and worn from all the hustles of life.

God has promised abundant water for all who thirst. And this is how: He says “I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a POOL OF WATER, and the dry land SPRINGS OF WATER (Isaiah 41: 18).

Therefore come running to this river that never dries. There is a vast supply for every thirsty soul, barren land, collapsing business, uncertain career and struggling ministry. It is also free of charge. Absolutely free, even for the poor and needy. Why should you run after water that doesn’t satisfy when Jesus has said “He that believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7: 38).

Begin to pray God’s word back to Him. There are times of refreshments in His presence (Acts 3: 19). Soak all your dryness in the RIVER OF LIFE and be renewed unto eternity.
