Topic: Are You Guilty?
Text: Romans 2: 21-24
21 You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? 22 You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonour God through breaking the law? 24 For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written. Amen
In our daily living, we seem to be always surrounded by Christians, yet sin seems to abound even the more. It has now become extremely difficult for today’s believer to share Christ with an unbeliever because they are yoked together and one can hardly tell the difference between the two.
In fact, majority of us who profess to be Christians and point fingers to condemn others do the very negative things like fornication, bribery and corruption, cheating, etc. which we preach against.
In John 8, the Bible gives account of a woman who was brought into the temple by the Teachers of the Law. Her charge was that she had committed adultery and the mob was at the verge of killing her by stoning. But Jesus said to them, “If anyone of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her”… At this, they all went away one after the other. They were also guilty of the very things they were preaching against.
Just like the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees, we also have on daily basis condemned people on certain sins we have rated in our minds as unpardonable. But now, let’s begin to ask ourselves, “are we guilty of the things we preach against? If yes, then we are the reason the, Bible says God’s name is blasphemed by unbelievers.
So then, what must we do differently? We ought to:
1. Confess sins we are guilty of and repent from them.
2. We must do well to remove the plank in our eyes before seeking to take the speck out of other people’s eyes (Matthew 7: 5)
3. Continue to teach, preach and admonish each other in love and with boldness so the work of Christ is perfected in us, even as we await His Second Coming.
Begin to pray. Ask God for humility and strength to acknowledge your own wrongdoings and the grace to live a blameless life that please the Lord. Also pray that the Holy Spirit uses you to admonish others to strive towards righteousness and pleasing God.
The Holy Spirit will help us. He will work on us till we becoming the perfect bride awaiting the coming of Christ our groom.
