Text: 1 Kings 8:17-19

17 Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. 18 But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19 Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son, who shall come from your loins, he shall build the house for My name.’ Amen

These were the words of King Solomon in appreciating God for helping him build the temple as God had promised his Father David. Despite the fact that David was denied this great opportunity, he put a lot of measures in place to make it was easy for his son Solomon to build the temple.

Similarly, Moses was denied entering the Promised Land for his disobedience to God. This however did not prevent him from encouraging Joshua and handing over the mantle of leadership to him to lead the people of Israel to the Promised Land. It is common to see the loser in a racing competition deliberately cause a winning competitor to fall and lose the race too. Most men want to get to the top by all means so that all others will be servants or subordinates to them.
Their failure to get to the top means nobody is worth getting there, either by their own efforts or through the failed person’s support.

We sometimes hear of some parents and relatives who explicitly say they didn’t get things as easy as this generation has. They received no support even for a good course. They base on these bitter experiences and decide to keep from supporting their children or others in need of their help.

But the question is, ‘why should someone go through any suffering you experienced which yielded no good fruit for you?’ You might not have achieved it, and there may seem to be no hope of achieving it at this stage of life. But you should not refrain from helping that brother, sister, relative or friend in achieving same. It brings glory to you all and God!

Begin to pray now for the strength to support any worthy cause without “looking at your own”. If Christ laid down His life for us all, the least we can do is to help each other, stand. It remains your success/ blessing too when those you aid to the top succeed; and they will. If they put themselves to it with godliness and diligence, God will help them. He promises to bless you for blessing others, and to help those you bless to succeed just so your sacrifice is not in vain. Therefore do this for Jesus; in your life time, help somebody stand.
