Topic: Humility – The Nature Of God
Text: Luke 19: 5
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” Amen
We all want to go far in life, to reach a certain altitude that commands a lot of respect. We study more and work hard to climb the social ladder higher every day.
Now, though our Lord Jesus desires we are lifted a step higher than before every day, He requires of us an attitude that receives Him like a “Child”. James 4: 6b explains that, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
Honestly, our status in society sometimes makes it difficult for us to receive the blessings due us. It is not so much the positions we occupy, but the attitude we display towards God and fellow man.
Zacchaeus was a wealthy man in his time. But for him to experience the blessings of God and have it in abundance, Jesus orders him to “COME DOWN”.
You see, humility is not a weakness; it is the nature of God. Phil 2: 5- 7 says “in your relationships with one another, have the same mind set as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Sometimes we have used pride as a weapon to make others know how powerful we are. It is not necessary, let us lose it all in prayer right now. God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Pray for a humble and gentle spirit… God lifts you up!
