The Price For Sin

Today’s Devotion
Topic: The Price For Sin
Text: Lev 5: 14- 16

14 The LORD said to Moses: 15 “When anyone is unfaithful to the LORD by sinning unintentionally in regard to any of the LORD’s holy things, they are to bring to the LORD as a penalty a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value in silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. It is a guilt offering.

16 They must make restitution for what they have failed to do in regard to the holy things, pay an additional penalty of a fifth of its value and give it all to the priest. The priest will make atonement for them with the ram as a guilt offering, and they will be forgiven.” Amen

Under the law, there was little or no mercy! Once there was a violation of any kind, a specific kind of sacrifice was required for atonement, otherwise offenders will face the recommended punishment for such a violation, even if the said sin was committed unintentionally.

You see, unintentional sins are violations committed out of ignorance or negligence without premeditation. It is said that “ignorance of the law is not an excuse”. In the law, anyone who committed unintentional or unconscious sin by violating the Holy Things of God had to offer a guilt offering. Period!

Now, with this special type of offering, offenders were to bring to the Lord as penalty a ram without defect from the flock, and the proper value in silver to the priest for atonement.

Beloved, kindly attempt counting the number of unintentional sins you may have committed from January till now, and see how many rams you would have had to present to the high priest daily.

The many negative things we say and do against God and each other, not because we intended to, but either because the pressures of this world push us to that limit, or the fact that we saw the offense being committed by others and registered it in our subconscious minds only to find ourselves doing same under the same circumstances much later, without even realising.

So share with us now, how many unintentional sins did you commit yesterday? How many rams would you have been required to present to the priest today and how much silver? Could you afford this on daily basis? If not, then begin to thank God for Jesus Christ.

By shedding His perfect blood, one time, we have been freed from the law and reborn in grace. He brought us out of the heavy grips of the law into the household of God, where Christ is our righteousness.

Here we are mandated to desist from sin and accept the Lord Jesus as personal Saviour. He gives us His Holy Spirit to live the kind of life that glorifies God.

Should we sin, either intentionally or otherwise, God promises by His faithfulness to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. All that is required is that we repent of it and confess to God with a broken heart.
Begin to pray now. Simply thank God for the blood that Jesus shed on Calvary. IT IS OUR ONLY HOPE OF ETERNITY WITH GOD. FOR WITHOUT HOLINESS, NO ONE CAN SEE GOD!
