Text: Jonah 2: 8

Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. Amen

One day, Jesus taught His disciples and said “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet He sent His servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

“But they ALL ALIKE began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

“The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ ‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but THERE IS STILL ROOM.’

“Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that MY HOUSE WILL BE FULL.'” (Lk 14: 15- 24)

Beloved, we have this august invitation to live and dine with the Lord forever. What is your excuse going to be this time? You know how most often you have a lot of that for the Lord. Sometimes you use the very blessings He gave you as the reason to skip service or even miss out on salvation. “Oo I just bought a land”, “I just bought 5 oxen”, “I just married” etc.

But seriously, how come we totally forget that the invitation to be in the presence of the Lord is not to drain but rather to fix and fill us up for every good work? WHEN THE MASTER SAYS “COME, EVERYTHING IS NOW READY”, it means there is so much good and blessing in stock for your every need and want. There’s grace for salvation, healing for your body and soul, breakthroughs for your aspirations and restorations for past errors.

Why will you idolize the things you have and make them the excuse for missing out on this great invitation? Prophet Jonah warns that “those who cling to worthless idols only forfeit the grace that could be theirs.” Think about it beloved.

As for the Master, His love for all compels Him to keep inviting as many that are willing. Why should you miss out on even one of His packages with your name on? Begin to pray. Ask Jesus into your heart for perpetual dwelling. Also ask for grace to dwell in His presence all the days of your life. Be assured of a warm reception when you come to Him. There is more room in His presence to contain all you are, have and will ever be. Stop giving excuses and come right in.
