Celebrating Dad

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Celebrating Dad
Text: Psalm 103: 13

Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. Amen

A father’s love is as solid as rock; though not often expressed in sweet words or by touch. It begins when they are confident to accept an unborn child as their seed and do everything to support our mothers through each pregnancy till delivery; footing every bill and buying all that is required for safe delivery.

After delivery, it is going to take a lot of love and courage for a father to step into the greatest responsibility God has given him by naming the child and being responsible for his or her upkeep for years to come.

Now this is how solid a father’s love can be: All of this they do as duty without complain. They spend all their adult life working and providing for their household. They take and make decisions that should help their “kids” realize their dreams and be all that God wants them to be.

They may not be the first to say “I love you, child” or be the one by your side during your first games, school play or quiz. But the discipline and morals they instil in a child contribute a lot to shaping him or her entirely for tomorrow.

It is even better when He is a believer whose inspiration is the Lord Jesus Christ. Then He will act as a spiritual covering to his household, praying for each member and breaking spiritual obstacles for their sakes.

Isn’t it wonderful then to know that each of us has a father? He does not have to be your biological father to act as such. Actually, any responsible man, who contributes to shaping your life positively is a fatherly figure.

And then we have the Father of fathers, the Supreme Father Himself, watching over all of us with jealous care and love.

The psalmist says, “Just as a father has compassion on His children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust.” (Ps 103: 13- 14).

He is the defender of the defenceless and a great Father to the fatherless. He manifests His Goodness through our earthly fathers. And when there is none available to play that role, HE STEPS RIGHT IN AND LITERALLY LOVES,GUIDES, PROVIDES, AND CARES FOR HIS OWN. His love is stronger than our imperfections can break.

Therefore begin to pray. Appreciate your Heavenly Father for always being there for you and then ask Him to bless and protect your earthly fathers, pastors and mentors. Pray that He continues to manifest His wisdom through them so that they guide you to safety.

Where you can’t pin point any particular male in your life playing the role of a Father, don’t despair. Ask the Lord to take your hand and lead you on as every father is to guide his own. And it will amaze you to see the joy with which He will keep you. Just to let you know that He cares so much more than any father can. And He is not even trying to prove a point. THAT IS WHO HE IS; OUR FATHER!

Happy Father’s Day to all actual or potential fathers. God bless you all… see you at church.
