Fighting Against God.

Today’s Devotion.
Topic: Fighting Against God.
Text: Acts 5:38-39

38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” Amen.

Shortly after the ascension of Christ, the promised Holy Spirit filled His disciples and empowered them for the spreading of the good news. They, however, met opposition from the most unlikely quarters; the high priest and members of the high council who were jealous of the apostles for the miraculous signs that God was using them for.

At a point in time, the high priest and his officials arrested the apostles and jailed them after sternly instructing them never to teach in Jesus’ name again, but an angel of the Lord freed them at night.

When they got rearrested, the high council decided to kill them. Present at the meeting was a renowned Pharisee named Gamaliel; a member of the high council. He made this statement to his colleagues: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” (Acts 5: 35-39).

Beloved, what is it that God has instructed you to do? What is it that you have set your heart to do? For as long as your purpose and activity is of God, NOTHING and NO ONE will be able to stop it. Whoever tries to will only find him or herself fighting against God; and who dares that?

Surely, they will attack in many ways, but will NEVER prevail against you because the Lord watches over you as the apple of His eye; He directs the steps of the godly and He delights in every detail of their lives (Psalm 37: 23).

So go on! Keep praying and trusting God; keep up the good work; you will win in the end. Begin to pray now. Commit every care to Jesus. He will see you through to the latter. Those who do not understand why you are so blessed should ask your God for answers. If they want you dead, then they must kill your God first. But, who will dare?
