Who Is This God? (Part 8)

Today’s Devotion
Topic: Who Is This God? (Part 8)
Text: Matthew 6: 9

9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” Amen

Let us continue to delve into the nature of God, considering and discussing Him today as our COMPASSIONATE FATHER.

You see, one attribute that every parent naturally possesses is the heart and compassion towards their children. It is from that compassionate attitude that parents are able to care for, impart, train and even discipline the child.

God is our Father. With love and tender mercies He reaches out to all creation, providing all the fatherly care we require to survive.

He (God) rescued the Israelites from Pharaoh, with His mighty hands, leading them through the wilderness, protecting and providing for all of them in all things. He summoned all of Israel one day and said to them:

“During the forty years I led you through the desert, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet. You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD” (Deut 29: 5-6).

The reason why the Lord said they ate no bread is because He (Himself) fed them with manna from heaven.

His compassion extends to all mankind. Jesus rightly said “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Mat. 5:45).

Therefore, come to Him all ye who are burdened and heavy laden and He will give you rest. Tell the wanderer God still loves Him. His compassion endures forever. Though He is the Supreme Judge, He does not delight in our condemnation but our repentance.

Let us search for Him while He may be found. Begin to pray. Ask that the compassion of our Father will reach you today, forgiving your sins and restoring you back to God. That way, you will know that all that is in Him is yours. He is the dependable One who doesn’t put to shame. He cares for you.

See you at church!
