Topic: Friend of Friends
Text: Proverbs 27: 6
Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Amen
We were created to inter depend on each other. Everyone could use some help; everyone needs another to survive; EVERYONE NEEDS A FRIEND.
We do not have much choice when it comes to family, but the friends we make are a direct result of our decision or choice.
A good friend will always be there when others are gone. Some can stick closer than even family. They may hurt you from time to time, but that will only be out of some negligence or carelessness on their part; not a deliberate attempt to destroy you.
Wounds inflicted on you from a genuine friend can be trusted. Forgive them, make amends and move on in love; however, with a strong mutual understanding not to take each other for granted anymore. But what are we to do with the kisses of an enemy? It is more dangerous than death.
When it came to betraying Jesus, Satan, through Judas, employed this method as the greatest disguise strategy to hand the Prince of Peace over for crucifixion (Lk 22: 3- 6, 47- 48). With this strategy, a person’s actions prove that they care, but their motives are selfish, and sometimes deadly.
One may not need so many friends in a lifetime. It could be just a Melchizedek in the life of Abram (Gen 14: 18- 20), a Jonathan in the life of David (1 Sam 20), a Naomi in the life of Ruth, a husband like Elkanah to a wife like Hannah (1 Sam 1) and a wife like Abigail to a husband like Nabal (1 Sam 25).
You may also need God to be friends with a patriarch like Abraham (James 2: 23), a Jesus in the life of Mary, Martha and Lazarus; a John in the life of Jesus, a Dorcas in the lives of the poor widows of Joppa (Act 9: 36- 42); a Phoebe, Priscilla and Aquila in the lives of ministers like Paul (Rom 16: 1- 4) and THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF EVERY BELIEVER.
Begin to pray that the Holy Spirit always leads you in choosing friends. Also, pray that He makes you a better friend to those who rely on you. After praying, call or text those friends who have been there with you through the thick and thin, it doesn’t matter if they are even family members. Bless their lives and let them know how much you appreciate them.
Nevertheless, always remember that JESUS remains your truest companion. HE IS AND MUST ALWAYS BE YOUR FRIEND OF FRIENDS.
