Topic: Now Give Me The Hill Country That The Lord Promised Me!
Text: Joshua 14: 12
Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.” Amen
You remember from Numbers chapter 13 how Moses sent out twelve spies to survey the land of Canaan and how the all of them brought bad reports except for Joshua and Caleb. Moses, upon the conviction and faith of the latter, made a promise to them that he and his descendants will have an inheritance in the land they were about to possess.
Forty-five years later, as the people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, Caleb went to see him too and said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear. I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.
So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’
“Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.” (Josh 14: 6- 14).
Beloved, what will then be your excuse for not possessing every blessing and promise of God upon your life. Caleb was eighty five years and was still willing to take up the challenge according to the promises of God regarding his life.
Yes he knew the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified but O, his faith was not of his own but in the Lord God Almighty. He said, “THE LORD HELPING ME, I WILL DRIVE THEM OUT JUST AS HE SAID”. Caleb was acting according to the word. How about you beloved? Have you given up on the Lord’s promises already, just because you waited too long for it or that you do not trust you have the strength to possess as you used to? Are you going to give up because the Anakites are a huge obstacle and challenge to you?
Well, if you are wholeheartedly walking with the Lord and holding on to Him as faithful, then rise up from such fears and begin to pray. The Lord helping you, you will drive out every evil opposition and surmount every obstacle that stands the way of your God-promised inheritance. Just be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. “The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever”, in Jesus name.
