The Accuser

Today’s Devotion

Topic: The Accuser

Text: Zechariah 3: 1-4

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?” Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.” Amen

Joshua was the High Priest of Israel during the time of prophet Zechariah. As High Priest, It was his duty to atone for the sins of all Israel. Unfortunately, his garment was filthy so as he stood before the God in duty, the devil showed up to ACCUSE HIM!

Like in the law court, the devil does this to establish why we do not merit the favour and blessings in God for us because of our sins and filth.

But Glory be to God we have an advocate, one who speaks on our behalf! His name is Jesus Christ. “The lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. (Johm 1: 29).

“He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”(1 John 2:2). To all who receive Him, repent of sin and confess, “… He is faithful and just to forgive sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteosness.” (1 John 1:9).

Why don’t you yield to this wonderful, yet undeserving opportunity the Father graciously gives us today? There is no use to walk in darkness at all. “If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:6-7).

Shall we now reflect on this word and pray, confessing all your weakness and sins to the Lord. He will change our filthy clothes and adorn us with clean and pure clothes that reflects His righteous covering upon our lives.

Now that we are in clean clothes through Christ, the Accuser has lost his grounds. Jesus’ blood has made us free from both the guilt and power of sin that used to plague us. Oh what a happy day!

Choose righteousness!
