Topic : There Is Work To Be Done.

Text: Nehemiah 6:3-4 (NASB)

3. So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”  4. They sent messages to me four times in this manner, and I answered them in the same way. Amen

Nehemiah was committed to rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. Such was the commitment and dedication that, the work progressed rapidly. The enemies of Israel burned with jealousy upon seeing this. Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem and the rest of the enemies deviced a means to distract Nehemiah and the work being done. They invited him four times for talks with the aim of killing him. Realising their plot, Nehemiah replied, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down”.

Distractions are eminent in our christian walk. They may come in different forms and in a number of ways. We notice from the scripture that, the enemies sent the message on four different occasions. Each time, Nehemiah’s reply was the same. It is prudent therefore, that we do not suffer ourselves to be overcome, by repeated urgency, to do anything sinful or imprudent; but when attacked with the same temptation over and over again, we must resist it with the same reason and resolution or even better so that we do not get entrapped.

Regardless of how society “parcels ” wrong or sin and delivers them to our doorsteps with the inscription, “everyone is into this and it’s so cool”, we must choose to reject them no matter how frequent they come.

We must also reject every form of discouragement projected to bring us down. There are vision killers who will never see anything good in what you do. Don’t dwell on their word or brood over their reaction towards you. If you know you doing a great job, keep at it.

We have a charge to keep, a God to glorify. There is the seed of Christ in us, which only produces what is pure and true. “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to all ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,upright and godly lives in this present age (Titus 2:11-12)

Beloved, don’t “lower the belt” and give in to enticements that are contrary to the word of God. You are doing a great job at that office by choosing to remain both hard working and committed to God. Do not listen to the Sanballats and Tobiahs; they only want to distract you and kill the vision.

Do not easily get discouraged, do not get distracted, do not give in. God allows opposition our way to both toughen and equip us for every good work.

Remember, every temptation to draw us from duty; should quicken us the more to duty. For why should you go down and mingle with the enemy that has plotted to kill you when you are already doing a great job for Jesus? Think about it.
