Topic: Watch Your Tongue
Text: Job 19: 1-2
Then Job replied: How long will you torment me and crush me with words. Amen.
Words heal and they kill, they can start wars/conflict and promote peace as well. One pleasant word spoken in time could be all it takes to transform a life.
Job was in anguish and pain, yet his friends kept at negative words until he cried out “why are you tormenting me with your words?”
Only God knows what could have happened to Job had he not spoken out against those negative words.
These negative words inflict emotional and psychological wounds. Often times, we do not pay much attention to the emotional trauma our words cause, because the wounds are all internal not external.
However this is not to suggest that we hide behind pleasant words to condone evil. When the situation requires we be firm and speak up against “wrong”, we must. However, we should address such problems void of abuse, spite or disregard.
Meditate on this word and begin to pray! Ask for wisdom to “let your conversations be always full of grace; seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (Col 4:6).
From hence, make sure you “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29). For “death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Prov. 18:21). Watch your tongue.
