Topic: They Did You Good!
Text: Luke 15:16
He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. Amen
We encounter different people everyday. Some, either by intended action or sheer hostility, make life unbearable for us. They may oppose us on every side, preventing us from reaching our desired goals.
We mostly feel the impact of their bad actions deny us opportunities that pertain to survival (e.g. refusing us food, medical attention, good wages, etc); and this makes us very sad.
However, we need to sometimes sit back and ask ourselves if the wrong done us by these people hasn’t actually helped to shape our lives in any good way.
When the prodigal son longed to eat from the pigs’ pods but no one gave him, he might have initially seen these people as enemies to his ‘progress’. But unknown to him and to his opposers, God was rather going to use that situation to facilitate his journey back to his true heritage.
He could have been poisoned to death by eating from the pigs’ pods. Also, he did not belong to the pig sty at all; he belonged to the palace.
In fact, he would later realise that, those who prevented him from eating with the pigs probably saved his life. Their hostility made him come to his senses. He went back to his father. HE BELONGED THERE — HE WAS ROYALTY!
TO THE WANDERER:
Come back to the loving embrace of your FATHER — You are royalty. You don’t have to carry those burdens anymore. Jesus bids you come.
TO THE BELIEVER:
Every opposition the devil brings your way is your opportunity to get closer to the Father. Though they may be intended to harm you, God will turn it around for your good.
