Protect Your Inheritance!

Topic: Protect Your Inheritance!

Text: 1 Kings 21: 2-3

Ahab said to Naboth, “Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth.” But Naboth replied, “The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors.” Amen

The king of Israel had all that pertained to good life at his disposal, yet he wanted the inheritance of Naboth. But you see, Naboth inherited this farm from his fathers and was hoping to hand it over to his own children too. His reply to the king was “God Forbid”!

This King, Ahab, asked to use Naboth’s vineyard for a vegatable garden and offered to give him a far better vineyard. Now, apart from the fact that vineyards had more worth and value than vegetable gardens, the king failed to realise that SOME THINGS ARE SIMPLY TOO PRECIOUS AND PRICELESS TO BE SOLD. You can not place market value on them nor exchange them for a “better deal”.

Our inheritance in Christ is the salvation we have received through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus, our sonship to God and God’s promise of eternal life. Do we really cherish and protect these gifts of grace?

Mostly, we trade these priceless gifts for perishable and temporal pleasures. Our love for a better life here on earth makes us compromise on our faith just to feed our selfish gains. Naboth could have accepted any other vineyard, but that would never have been the same as the inheritance he received from his forefathers. That one had been handed over from generations. It bore the FAMILY LEGACY.

Reject any pressure to cause you to compromise so that you lose or exchange your inheritance in Christ. Tell whatever it is that entices you to trade your place as a heir of the Father for anything else that  “God forbid!”.

Begin to pray now. Ask the Holy Ghost to help you stand for righteousness and godliness. In a period where believers compromise on everything just to be identical with the world, ask the Holy Ghost to cause the zeal of our Father in heaven to consume you.

Naboth would rather die than give up his inheritance for any other offer. Even to the point of death, you too must refuse to give up your inheritance in Christ. Not for a life of temporary pleasure only to be found wanting on the day of reckoning. Nor for an occasional ‘dance-party’ with sin till it sways you completely from God.

It is not worth it. Our heritage in Christ through faith is too precious to exchange for any other thing this world has to offer. Preserve!
