Topic: Be Not Entangled Again!
Text: Galatians 5: 1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Amen
We were all in some kind of bondage before we met the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted Him as Saviour into our hearts. His power has since set us free from the bondage of sin, guilt, curse and death. Why must we go back to slavery?
We are to stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. For if we have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and are again entangled in it and are overcome, we are worse off at the end than we were at the beginning. It would have been better for us not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn our backs on the sacred command that was passed on to us. (2 Peter 2: 20-21)
We must take heed lest we become like “a dog that returns to its vomit,” and, like “a sow (or pig) that is washed and yet returns to her wallowing in the mud.” The world has nothing to offer except the temptations that lead to sin and it’s ultimate consequence in death.
Believers, let’s not deceive ourselves with the thought that our “dance party with the world and sin” is ‘okay’, so long as we seek forgiveness from the Lord. You see, “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them” (2 Peter 2: 19b). And before long, you will notice that you have become mastered by sin and are entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Refuse to give in, therefore, to the temptations of the world because “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.” (2 Peter 2:9)
Meditate on this word and begin to pray. Ask for the gift of righteousness to fill your heart, and refuse to become a slave of the sin that held you bound before. Remember that we ought to “live as people who are free, not using our freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” (1 Peter 2: 16)
“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9: 62). “No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God” (1 John 3:9). What fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Cor 6:14c). Be not entangled again!
