Bier Stop!

Topic: Bier Stop!

Text: Luke 7: 12- 15
12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said,“Young man, I say to you, get up!”15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. Amen.
Jesus, went to Nain and, as usual, a huge crowd followed Him. He meets a funeral procession that saddens His heart. A dead man was being carried for burial and a large crowd accompanied the coffin. Why? Because he that had died was the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.
The situation was distressing because this widow had already witnessed the death of her husband, and now that of her only son. How unfair can life be? She gets the empathy of a large crowd who pushes the BIER that her son laid on, step by step to his grave.
At the outskirts of the village, she meets ANOTHER MAN, also with a crowd following Him, who is not dead but FULL OF LIFE. He didn’t have to touch her dead son, No! That was against  Jewish custom. HE TOUCHED THE BIER ON WHICH THE YOUNG MAN LAID AND COMMANDED HIM TO GET UP!
You see Jesus! He can touch the bier that is aiding your funeral procession and turn things around in your favour. A bier is a stand on which a corpse or coffin/casket containing a corpse is placed to lie in state or to be carried to the grave. It represents everything that confirms your situation is a dead, that is one, and also allows the crowd to carry you gradually to your grave.
Actually, so long as a dead person or situation lies on a bier, it is only expected that the bearers will carry whatever is on it to the grave. THE MASTER DECIDED TO TOUCH THAT BIER FIRST SO THAT THE PROCESSION COULD HALT. Lo and behold, the moment Jesus touched the bier, the bearers stood still. Then He spoke the WORD, and he who was dead lived again.
Receive the touch that halts the burial procession of your dead dreams and aspirations in Jesus’ name! That same touch will cause all the bier bearers to stand still; giving way to the word of the Lord that gives life.
Jesus commands you today to GET UP, YOU WHO ARE SPIRITUALLY DEAD! GET UP ALL WHO HAVE LOST HOPE IN LIFE. GET UP, YOU WHO GAVE UP A LONG TIME AGO BECAUSE OF THE MANY ATTEMPTS THAT FAILED.
GET UP, for it’s not over yet. You have a God to serve, a destiny to live, family obligations to fulfill, a generation to win for Christ and eternity to prepare for. Get up NOW!
Why must you allow the crowd to push you down the grave with their bier when you know your success is the only hope your DEAR MOTHER is depending on for the years of toil?
Get back up to your dreams, knowing you have a loving family praying that you succeed and a Jesus who has intercepted your burial procession this morning to give you life in abundance.
Begin to pray now, pray LIFE into your dead situation and then tell the crowd of mourners to go home. You and your dreams didn’t die yet!
